Because of increasing temperatures around the world, home air conditioning systems are gaining popularity almost everywhere.

Because of increasing temperatures around the world, home air conditioning systems are gaining popularity almost everywhere. These have become necessities rather than luxury. In Asian countries, these are especially popular in Singapore and Hong Kong where the majority of their population are living in high-rise apartments, and in India where temperatures can reach more than 45°C.

Such systems are also common in the US and Canada. Both countries have freezing temperatures during the winter but also have very hot weather during the summer. However, these systems are not widely used in European countries due to higher energy costs in those countries, moderate summer temperatures, and because these systems are considered environmentally unfriendly since the refrigerants used are associated with ozone depletion.

Air conditioners come in various sizes, cooling capacities, and prices. The following are the types of home air conditioning systems:

Window and through-wall units – These are what we commonly see placed in a window or through a wall opening. The warm air is drawn from inside the room and expelled outdoors. Condensation is allowed to freely drip from the unit to the ground.

Evaporative Coolers –These are often called “Persian coolers” because Iran has the largest number of these units worldwide. These are also called “Swamp coolers”. Evaporative coolers pull air through wet pads, cooling it as the air evaporates the water that has become attached to it.

Portable Air Conditioners – These are moveable units that can be transferred from one room to another and do not require installation. These work by drawing warm air from a room then expelling it to the outside of the building through a ventilating tube. Condensation is collected in a bucket and requires manual removal. These are usually used in homes, apartments, and small offices or business establishments.

Split System Central Air Conditioning (ducted A/C) – The compressor or the noisy portion of the unit is placed outdoors. This is the part that cools the air to be blown into the room or building. Condensation is allowed to freely drip from the external unit to the ground. This system allows even cooling of all areas in the house. Almost all central air conditioning systems use the split system.

All home air conditioning systems have their advantages and there will always be one perfect for you. However, before making any purchases and installations, it is always best to consult a professional.

Mobile air conditioning (MAC) uses moveable air conditioning units.

Mobile air conditioning (MAC) uses moveable air conditioning units. In fact, some of them have wheels for easier portability. These MAC units do not need to be installed or fitted through a wall by professionals. These are placed on the floor of the room that you want to be cooled.

MAC units work just like other air conditioning units and refrigerators. They remove the heat from the air with the help of Freon then expel that warm air outside the building. If the warm air is not removed from the room, the air conditioning unit will not be able to cool the room well. This is why most air conditioning units have parts placed outside the building – to expel warm air.

MAC units do not have any parts that are placed outside the building. However, a 5 to 7-foot tube connected to the unit is placed through a window, door, or mail slot to force out warm air. When the MAC unit is moved from one room to another, the tube is taken with it.

MAC units are usually used in rented or temporary homes or apartments, and small offices or business establishments. They can also be used in rooms that already have air conditioning systems but remain a little too warm, such as:

Computer server rooms

Conference or training rooms unusually packed with people

The advantages of using MAC units are:

No installation required

Offers temporary cooling solution that can be put away when not in use

Ideal for cooling a certain area or a single room in a house

Portable/moveable – so a unit can be used in more than one area

Can save on electrical cost because it is small and uses up less electricity

The disadvantages of using MAC units are:

Quite noisy

Unsuitable for large areas

The need to leave a door or window open for the exhaust hose to pass through

Some units manually require you to regularly empty the drain bucket

More expensive than wall-mounted air conditioners.

Mobile air conditioning units may cost from $289.99 to $369.99. Popular brands include: Delonghi, Mistral, Hotpoint, Dimplex, Convair, and Blueway.

In buying one, choose a model that is energy efficient. It may be a little more expensive than other models, but in the long run, it will save you more money through lower electric bills.

Ever felt like you were like a turkey that is slowly roasting in an oven and just waiting to be served?

Ever felt like you were like a turkey that is slowly roasting in an oven and just waiting to be served? This has long been a problem among many people especially nowadays due to the effects of global warming. The intense heat outdoors warms up whole buildings in and out. This situation increased the demand for portable air conditioning systems worldwide.

A portable air conditioning unit works in the same way as those air conditioning units mounted on walls or through windows, except that these can be transferred from one room to another. Portable units also have compressors and use freon, a refrigerant that removes the heat from the air, and expels warm air out of the room. It does this through an exhaust hose that is routed through a window, door, or a small space between the walls. These units also collect the condensation from the cooled air and drains that into a bucket that needs to be emptied from time to time.

These units are used to cool a small area of the house or can supplement a central air conditioning system in instances when a little extra cooling is needed. Depending on the model, a portable air conditioning unit can have features such as dehumidifiers, air purification filters, or built-in heaters but of course, it would cost you an extra amount for those features.

When should you purchase one? To make sure that portable units are worth spending for, here are a few things to remember:

When there is no option to have a wall-mounted or through the window air conditioner, then purchasing a portable unit comes in very handy and worth it. They do not require mounting or installations.

Many models have wheels so that you can easily transfer these from one room to another.

These are good in keeping electrical consumption low since you can have the option to only cool the rooms that are often used.

Portable units tend to be noisy because all its machinery is inside the room.

To keep the warm air out of the room, there is a need to leave a window open or a door ajar.

Now, it is up to you to decide whether purchasing one is worth your money or not. If it matches your needs, then getting a portable unit can be one of the best decisions you can make.

Portable air conditioning units or PACs are air conditioning machines that can be moved around the house since these do not need to be installed permanently.

Portable air conditioning units or PACs are air conditioning machines that can be moved around the house since these do not need to be installed permanently. The warm air circulating inside a room is sucked into the inlets of the PAC. It is circulated within the unit and is cooled by evaporator coils with refrigerants inside. The cool air produced is then blown out the front of the PAC while the warm air left inside the unit is expelled through an exhaust hose located at the back of the unit. All PACs need ventilating hoses to get rid of warm air.

There are many advantages in using this type of air conditioning units. These include:

Its portability. PACs are great to use when you tend to move from one room to another.

The absence of the need for a rectangular hole on the wall. If you are renting a place with no provision for through-wall air conditioners, this type is a good choice. It utilizes a supple hose (five to seven feet long) that runs through a window and is connected to a venting kit that expels the warm air outside the house.

Similar features as those of wall-mounted air conditioning units: such as an adjustable thermostat that controls the heating and cooling system of the unit.

Lower electrical bills. This type is ideal for those who are cost-cutting. You can keep costs down since you can choose to cool off one room at a time.

Heating mode. Some units have this feature which heats the room instead of cooling it. This can be of great use during cold months.

However, like all things, PACs also have disadvantages, including:

Tendency to produce more noise than a fixed air conditioner since the condenser is inside the room. Fixed air conditioners have condensers that are located outside so that you won’t be able to hear the sound it makes when inside the room or building.

Manual removal of accumulated water. All ACs produce water. Some PACs may require you to manually throw out the water in their drain bucket unlike fixed air conditioning units which directly drips the water outdoors.

Lower cooling capacity. Since PACs are much smaller, they also have reduced power output which in turn makes them less effective in cooling.

So, are portable air conditioning units the right one for you?

When we hear the word “vintage” our minds wander back to the time when things were plain and simple.

When we hear the word “vintage” our minds wander back to the time when things were plain and simple. Basically, vintage means having an enduring appeal, classic, old, or outmoded. Look around you. Which of your belongings are vintage? You may have a vintage watch, necklace, or earrings given to you by your grandparents.

Vintage things are generally more valuable than modern things. Due to its great significance in the world’s history, it is definitely a piece that you would want to treasure for the rest of your life. However, unless a classic car is in a good and functioning condition, it cannot be called as your friends’ object of envy. That is undoubtedly the reason why people are willing to pay a fortune in order to have their vintage cars restored or modified.

One of the things that people add to classic cars is the air conditioning unit. In the past, there was hardly any reason to have air conditioning units in cars because the climate was not as warm as it is now and people didn’t travel as far as we do now. Furthermore, there was no heavy traffic to keep us in our cars for long periods of time. Now, an air conditioning unit is a must in every car.

Because of this, many companies manufacture air conditioning units specifically for classic cars. Vintage air conditioning systems are being used for 1970 classic cars and older models of Ford, GM, Chrysler cars/trucks, and Mustang.

Vintage car owners can now easily browse through the internet and find companies with highly skilled and trained personnel offering various services for vintage cars. A company called Vintage Air, for example, manufactures vintage air conditioning units like the Gen IV SureFitTM System that can be used for the 1967-1968 Ford Mustang and the 1968-1972 Chevrolet Chevelle, as well as the Gen IV Magnum that can be used for large sedans or wagons made in the 50s all the way to the 80s.

Despite what these air conditioning systems are called (vintage) these are actually quite modern. Some even use an electronic microprocessor control system (like a mini computer) to ensure that the system works effectively.

It may be a bit costly to add air conditioning units to your classic car, but once you have selected the right people to do the job and get great results, then it’s worth every penny spent.
